Muncie Astronomy Club was founded over a chance meeting between  Maribel Leicht and Charles Cantrell at Jack's Camera Shop in Muncie in early summer of 2000.  They approached Dr. Ronald Kaitchuk, Professor of Astronomy at Ball State University, and together the three formed the club, along with many interested science and space minded folks from the local community.

After more than a quarter of a century, some of those enthusiastic original members still attend, including Dr. Kaitchuk, who is now Professor Emeritus at Ball State University.  We are very lucky to have Dr. Kaitchuk do some of our presentations and share his wealth of knowledge with the members and the local community.  Other members share different aspects of their love of physics and astronomy during monthly meetings on a variety of topics from exoplanets to astrophotography.  No matter what your particular cosmos-based interests are, you’ll find it at Muncie Astronomy Club.

Our current member list includes folks from all over east central Indiana, of every age group from elementary students to retired individuals.  Several club members have won awards for their astrophotography, space art and astronomical knowledge.

Muncie Astronomy Club has many outreach programs throughout the year at a variety of venues which includes Mounds State Park in Anderson, Morrow’s Meadows in Yorktown and Summit Lake State Park near New Castle.  Please join us to learn about our cosmos and enjoy the views by looking through our telescopes!  For more information about our outreach programs, look under the Events tab.

If you are interested in having a club member speak to your school group, scout troup, or other organization, please feel free to contact us. We would love to bring these experiences to groups of most any size and age - just for the fun of discovering what's out there.

Muncie Astronomy Club is on the planning committee of the annual Indiana Family Star Party at Prairie Grass Observatory near Frankfort, IN.
